Summary



Chapter 1

In the first chapter of The Last Seaweed Pie by Susabellie Bascom, readers follow Willa, a teenage girl living on the island of Kataluna in the Caribbean Sea. Willa is struggling to come to terms with her father, Barty, leaving the island after the death of her beloved grandmother. Willa’s grandmother, Lala, taught her about the local healing powers of the ocean and the creatures in and around it. After Barty’s unexpected departure, Willa is determined to take over her grandmother’s role, hoping that it will bring her father back home.

The fifth chapter of The Last Seaweed Pie follows Willa as she struggles to find a way to use the power of the ocean to save Kataluna. She and her friends hold a peaceful protest in the ocean and perform a spell to cleanse the waters and protect the island.
