Chapter 1
In the first chapter of The Last Seaweed Pie by Susabellie Bascom, readers follow Willa, a teenage girl living on the island of Kataluna in the Caribbean Sea. Willa is struggling to come to terms with her father, Barty, leaving the island after the death of her beloved grandmother. Willa’s grandmother, Lala, taught her about the local healing powers of the ocean and the creatures in and around it. The second chapter of The Last Seaweed Pie follows Willa on her first adventure with her friends, Tali and Marisol, as she begins to take over her grandmother’s role as a healer. The trio go in search of a local fishmonger and a magical cure for Marisol’s brother.
The chapter contains a turning point in Willa’s journey. After receiving some advice from the fishmonger, Willa realizes the important role she must take on in helping others, and she begins to understand more about how to use the ocean’s healing powers. We start to see how she is maturing and developing her newfound connection with the ocean and its creatures.
Chapter 3
The third chapter of The Last Seaweed Pie follows Willa as she begins to explore the healing properties of the ocean and its creatures. Willa meets with an old fisherman who can teach her about the healing and mystical powers of the island.
This chapter is about Willa taking control and learning to use the skills her grandmother had taught her. Willa and her friends go for a scuba diving adventure to explore the island’s reefs to learn more about its healing capabilities. During this adventure, Willa discovers her own powers and is able to use them to help heal animals. This chapter also delves into the mystical powers of the ocean and its creatures, which gives readers a better understanding of why the island is so important to Willa and the people of Kataluna.
Chapter 4
The fourth chapter of The Last Seaweed Pie jumps into a bigger conflict as Willa discovers a secret cargo of toxic waste washing up on the shore of Kataluna. Willa and her friends are determined to save the island from destruction and stake out the factory polluting the ocean.
At the same time, Willa discovers more about her grandmother’s life and how she had used her healing powers to save the island from other forms of danger. As Willa gathers the ingredients for her seaweed pie, she starts to understand the importance of her connection with the ocean and how it can help protect the environment.
Chapter 5
The fifth chapter of The Last Seaweed Pie follows Willa as she struggles to find a way to use the power of the ocean to save Kataluna. Willa teams up with a group of environmental activists and takes to the sea. She and her friends hold a peaceful protest in the ocean and perform a spell to cleanse the waters and protect the island.
This chapter shows us how Willa is growing into her role as a healer, as she learns to trust her instincts and use her newfound magical powers. We also learn about the importance of self-confidence, as Willa learns to embrace her own abilities and encourages her friends to do the same. In the end, Willa is able to save Kataluna from the toxic waste and her grandmother’s seaweed pie proves to be a lifesaver.
