Summary

Ten Fat Sausages by Anita Lobel is a funny, silly, and entertaining story about hungry animals trying to figure out who has hidden ten fat sausages. The story tells us how the animals come up with a way to each get a piece of the sausages.

In the first chapter, the animals spot ten fat sausages in a bush. They all are very hungry, so they fight over who should eat them first. The argument goes on and on, but eventually, the fox comes up with a solution to divide the sausages equally.

In the second chapter, the fox divides the sausages into three piles of three sausages each with one left over. He suggests they pass a round the remaining sausage until it’s all gone. The animals agree and the pig is the first to take a bite.

In the third chapter, the animals continue to pass the remaining sausage around in circles until there’s not a single piece left. Each hungry animal takes a bite, but they all still remain hungry.

In the fourth chapter, the fox once again saves the day with a clever idea. He decides to tell a joke, and if everyone laughs, then they can share the sausages equally between them. After hearing the joke, all the animals laugh and the hot sausages are divided fairly amongst the group.

In the fifth chapter, the animals give one of the sausages to a little bird who was peeping out from the bush. They all agreed that the bird should get a piece of the sausage since the bird was so small that it wouldn't eat much anyways.

In the sixth chapter, the animals take a rest and discuss how they should cook the sausages. The mouse suggests they roast the sausages over the fire and the others like the idea. So, they all roast their sausages together until they’re cooked through.

In the seventh chapter, all the animals sit down and enjoy their delicious, juicy sausages. After finishing their meal, they thank the fox for his quick thinking and great idea.

In the eighth chapter, the animals reflect on the mystery of who put the sausages in the bush. The fox is sure that it was a human, but all the other animals are convinced it was an animal. This leads to an argument between the animal again, but they eventually agree they may never know who put the sausages in the bush.

In the ninth and final chapter, the animals reflect on how much better it is to pool their resources together rather than fight over who gets the sausages. The fox suggests that they all get together and bake sausages more often and the other animals agree.

All the animals learned a lot from the experience and they know now that it's much better when they all collaborate and work together.

In the end, Ten Fat Sausages is a delightful story that teaches us a valuable lesson. By collaborating and working together, we can make sure everyone can get a share of something good.
