Chapter 1: Down the Rabbit Hole
Alice, a curious and imaginative young girl, follows a talking rabbit down a hole and finds herself in Wonderland. Here, she meets strange and wonderful creatures, including the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts.
Example: Alice finds herself in a room with many doors, each of a different size. She tries to open the smallest door but finds it too small. She then tries the largest door but finds it too big. Frustrated, she sits down in a chair and begins to cry.
Chapter 2: The Pool of Tears and the Caucus Race
Alice falls into a pool of her own tears and grows to a giant size. She meets a group of animals who invite her to a caucus race, in which they run around in circles and don't get anywhere.
Example: The animals in the caucus race all start out running in different directions. Alice, being the largest and fastest, soon catches up to the others. She then starts running in circles, trying to catch her own tail.
Chapter 3: The Rabbit Sends in a Little Bill
Alice meets the White Rabbit again, who sends her to the Duchess's house to deliver a message. Along the way, she meets the Cheshire Cat, who tells her that everyone in Wonderland is mad.
Example: Alice delivers the message to the Duchess, who is a cruel and abusive woman. The Duchess's baby turns into a pig, and Alice runs away in fear.
Chapter 4: The Pig and the Pepper
Alice follows the White Rabbit into his house and gets stuck in his kitchen. She meets the Duchess's cook, who throws dishes and pots at her. Alice uses a pepper grinder to make the cook sneeze, and she escapes through a window.
Example: Alice hides under the table to avoid the cook's dishes and pots. The cook then starts to throw pepper at Alice, who sneezes uncontrollably.
Chapter 5: Advice from a Caterpillar
Alice meets a wise old caterpillar who tells her to "Eat me" and "Drink me." Alice does as she's told and grows to a smaller size. The caterpillar tells her that she must "Believe in yourself."
Example: Alice takes a bite of the mushroom that the caterpillar gives her and grows to a smaller size. She then drinks some of the water from the caterpillar's pipe and grows to a larger size.
