Chapter 1: The Ruins of Summer
Mike Noonan, a famous author, retreats to his remote lake house in Maine after the tragic death of his wife, Joanie. Devastated and unable to write, he finds himself tormented by strange nightmares and mysterious apparitions in the house.
Chapter 2: Ghosts and Ice
Mike's nightmares intensify, and he begins to see Joanie's ghost in the house. One night, he awakens to find ice crystals and an icy breath on his neck. He becomes convinced that Joanie's spirit is trying to communicate with him.
Chapter 3: The Bone Woman
Mike encounters an enigmatic woman named Mattie Devore, who claims to be an artist. She warns Mike that he is in danger and that Joanie's ghost is not what it seems. Mattie reveals that Joanie's spirit is being manipulated by an evil force in the house.
Chapter 4: The Shadow Child
Mike uncovers a hidden room in the house that contains a child's toy and a bag of bones. He realizes that the child, Kyra, was Joanie's first child, who died shortly after birth. Mike suspects that Kyra's spirit is also haunting the house.
Chapter 5: The Storm
A violent storm rages outside the lake house, trapping Mike and Mattie inside. Mike confronts the evil force in the house, which manifests itself as a malevolent spirit called Max Devore. Max reveals that he murdered Kyra and intends to possess Mike's body to escape the house.
Chapter 6: The Battle
Mike and Mattie fight back against Max Devore, using objects from the house to protect themselves. Mike uses his words as a weapon, reciting passages from his unpublished novel. Mattie uses her artistic abilities to trap Max in a painting.
Chapter 7: The Aftermath
With Max Devore defeated, the spirits of Joanie and Kyra are released. Mike finds a sense of closure with his wife and daughter and begins the healing process. He finally overcomes his writer's block and completes his novel, titled "Bag of Bones."
